LAURA BARBANEL, Ed.D.

Dr. Barbanel’s research interests are in the area of immigration and the psychological problems that follow immigration, as well as multicultural issues in education. Her specific research is in the area of the psychological problems of immigration as they relate to the culture that receives the immigrant. As a trained psychoanalyst, she brings to bear on her research and her teaching the findings of psychoanalysis. She co-edited the book Psychoanalytic Reflections on Current Issues with H. Siegel.

Dr. Barbanel is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology in psychoanalysis. She has served in a number of elected and appointed positions in the American Psychological Association, including the Board of Educational Affairs, The Policy and Planning Board, the Finance Committee, the Council of Representatives, and the Board of Directors of APA.
